Sustainability in the fashion is such a huge topic today because of how detrimental the industry has been to the planet for so long. To put it in perspective, the fashion industry is the second largest polluter on the planet. Now I could go into detail about all the harmful chemicals factories dump into rivers or all the slave labor used in textile mills, but I’ll just get to the meat of the subject. How do we find a brand that is TRULY sustainable, meaning it is eco-friendly and ethical?
You could do your own research on the brands website and read through all their codes and ethics statements that are generic and bland, but I’m just going to make it easier for you. Here is a list of things you can do to check the sustainability of different fashion brands.
Download the The Donegood Chrome Extension
If you use Chrome, this extension is super easy to install and free! Literally all you do is click the button to install and Donegood will show you ethical and sustainable alternatives to products you are shopping for. The best part is that they have discounts and deals for you to use on those products.
Check Out Ethical Made Easy‘s Brand Directory
Ethical Made Easy has a full directory of sustainable brands that range from fashion, to homegoods, to even snacks. Everything is divided by categories as well. For example, if you are looking for sustainable dresses, there is a whole category just for that. What I really loved is that the brands they recommend are researched by the Ethical Made Easy team so you know these brands didn’t just slap on some code of ethics on their website and automatically get approved.
See What Grade Brands Get With Shop Ethical’s Guide
Here is another list of brands that are not only part of the fashion industry but the food and beauty industry as well. Shop Ethical gives each brand a letter grade with key that tell you what each letter means exactly. It’s a pretty easy way to quickly see what the deal is with the brands.

Finally, Good On You Has A List Both On Their App and Online
Good On You is probably one of my favorites because there’s a lot of interesting information. They have articles relating to sustainability, fashion brands, and trends that are super fun to read. Of course, there is a list of sustainable brands that you can look through or if you have a specific brands in mind, just search it or search by category. Overall, I like this one a lot.
While I totally and completely understand that this stuff is expensive, there are many ways we can reduce the use of fast fashion little by little. Every small deed counts and the important thing is to raise awareness about the fashion industry and its impact on the planet.
