Fall 2020 Menswear Fashion Trends To Steal

As you know… or may not know, men’s fashion is not exactly talked about as much as women’s fashion. Maybe I’m biased because I myself am a woman and never needed to pay attention to men’s fashion, however I CAN say that as a fashion student, mostly everything we study revolves around women. Although some believe it is because men don’t care about fashion, we can easily just take a look at the way society sways our opinions on men’s fashion. From the smaller sections in stores and the lack of runway shows dedicated to men, it’s clear there are many factors that lead towards the lack of attention towards men’s fashion.

As someone who is always wondering about personal style and the wardrobes of those around me, I realized I had a severe lack of knowledge about men’s styles. I wanted to change that and started to do some research to see what trends are popular for men this fall season. I noticed a lot of trends were seen on both men’s and women’s runways but I wanted to highlight some that I found specifically in men’s shows that I really love.

Plaid Plus More Plaid

Gucci
Todd Snyder
Burberry

Plaid is not a total surprise for fall, but the tasteful overload of it is the point of this trend. Whether it be the same plaid print, a combination of check, or gingham (these are types of plaids), the effect of these linear patterns is the same. Personally, I’m on the hunt for a pair of plaid trousers (yes… I said trousers because in the U.S it would refer to a style of more formal pants), with a matching oversized blazer… or maybe a vest?

All White, Alright?

Balmain
Jacquemus
Craig Green

I LOVE WHITE! For me, it’s because I feel like I look the best in white but for the most part it goes well with almost everything. The elegance of the white plus the trend of a monochrome look these past few years is perfect for the fall. So that rule that says that your shouldn’t wear white after labor day, doesn’t exist to me or the fashion world… especially for Fall 2020.

Silky Smooth

Ami
Dolce & Gabbana
Balmain

Ok, I know this might be a little odd to some men, but I really think the shiny silky fabric looks so chic. Although, done the wrong way, it could look like that pajama trend a from few years ago. I think the way it was styled in the photos above with the turtleneck is awesome. I’m stealing this styling trick for sure, sorry fellas.

Thick Knits

Dolce and Gabbana
Fendi
Dsquared

Knit sweaters are like plaid in sense that it is not a surprise for fall, however the big chunky look of these is what makes it great. It’s not necessarily about the silhouette of the piece, but about the thickness of yarn being knitted. In addition to the sweater itself, the thick scarf is just as important for this trend. For styling, I noticed that if finding the super thick knit sweater is hard (or too expensive), look for a chunky scarf instead and pair it with a regular sweater. It will still give that chunky look without suffocating you… as much.

Bedazzled Bro

Dior Men
Alexander Mcqueen
Balmain

I’m not sure there’s much to say about his trend but WOW. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but who doesn’t love a little sparkle? Looking at these pieces I can’t imagine the price, but mostly I can’t imagine there being a option that is within a college student’s price range. I’m on the lookout for it, but I might just have to have this be my next DIY project. I’ll keep you updated.

Now let me include some more wearable looks thanks to Instagram and some celebrities.
