A List of Black-Owned Businesses In Northeast Ohio and How To Find More Near You -

I have to be honest, I was extremely hesitant about posting because I didn’t want to corrupt the news and content that is worth viewing with something I wrote that doesn’t support it. Last week, I did not post for that reason and also because I truly didn’t feel comfortable advertising myself and my work during such a horrific time.

HOWEVER, after some thought I had come to the realization that even though my voice is small, I wanted to do something good to support the black lives matter movement, and the black community that surrounds me.

I decided one of the best ways to do that is to put my money where my mouth is and find black owned businesses near me that I can give my money to and directly impact the lives of my community members. Below, I’ve provided a list of businesses that intrigued me that you can go to, however I will also provide links to resources that provide a complete directory for businesses that are black owned in Northeast Ohio.

So for those of you living outside of Northeast Ohio, don’t worry, I’m going to provide a bunch of resources for you to be able to locate black owned businesses near you too!

In the time between when the pandemic began and when the protests began I spent time every weekday reading stories to little ones who may have tuned in. • As someone without children I often feel like it’s my obligation to be part of the “village” that helps other‘s in providing care for theirs. The reading series I did had been my way of showing up where I can and where I feel led to. • It’s the same now in this continued fight against injustice and this particular fight against police brutality — we all have to show up whenever and however and with every ounce of our power, heart and intention. • I wanted to offer this reading I did just a few weeks ago by Faith Ringgold as a soft space in your day — whenever this post may pop up on your feed. • I say over and over my healing has always been found in Black women and book written and illustrated by Faith Ringgold has held my heart tenderly since my own mama read it to me as a little girl. Today Cassie and her dreams and her words and her hopes for her people still sound like the sweetest thing to my ears and encompasses the passions I hold within me. • Take a breath, listen to the story, continue to show up and never back down. • If you love this book you can purchase it from my bookstore @elizabethsofakron and a parentage of proceeds will go to @thelovelandfoundation.
